3 Early Fall Tips

I am tickled with the fall season and wanted to share 3 early fall tips as we usher in cooler temperatures.

1. Ceiling Fans ->They have been turning all summer long helping to keep the inside of your home cooler. When you turn them off, prepare to clean the blades of dust that has collected on them. I can assure you there will be plenty. The ceiling fans will look fresh and clean.

2. Jersey Sheets ->A set of jersey sheets are a must-have for the bed to keep you warm on these cool fall mornings and nights. These sheets are not quite as heavy as flannel sheets and are perfect for this time of the year.

3. Walking Shoes/Pedometer ->Now that the temperatures outside are cooler, it's a good time to step up your walking routine. Check your walking shoes for wear from the spring/summer to make sure the tread has not worn down. Also, purchase a pedometer which is not very expensive to track your walking steps. It clips securely to your exercise clothing.

Just a few fall tips to welcome the new season.

Autumn & Apples

My favorite time of the year has come around...Autumn. Along with it comes delicious apples which is another favorite of mine. The price of apples in the grocery stores have been very high and I asked a produce manager awhile ago why there were so high. He responded that apples were out of season. OK, now that autumn is here and apples are back in season, I caught a great deal on Gala apples for $.99 cents/lb. while checking out the weekly ad at Publix. This is the lowest price on apples I've seen lately so my fruit bowl is now filled with fresh apples.

As I have mentioned before, it's a good idea to check the weekly store fliers for specials which can be done online before you head out to shop. Don't be afraid to ask the produce or store manager to match the price of an item. They would rather have you purchase the item from their store since you are already shopping there. It also saves you time and gas from driving around to catch deals.

TGIF, What's Up?

Hello Readers, it's Friday and seems like the week moved along quickly. No complaints from me! I thought today's post would be open to my readers in hopes that you will share what's going on with you today and this weekend.

Me ->I am finally getting the back-to-school supplies organized and ready to mail to my nieces. Also, I haven't stopped by a few local consignment shops in awhile. I bet there are some items marked down and a good buy is always fun. My friend owns an antique store in our downtown area and I enjoy stopping by to browse and chat.

Share your fun by leaving a comment. It's always nice to hear from you. Thanks!

Try this Money Saving Tip

By now, those who follow my blog or simply stop by from time to time, know that I am quite frugal and enjoy offering ideas for saving money. Try this quick tip on for size:

-->Carry only $10-$20: As you go about your day, decide that you will only spend that amount for everything you do such as buying morning coffee, lunch, snacks, or meeting friends after work. Once that amount is spent, don't stop by the ATM. I think you will monitor your spending a bit more knowing that your cash is getting low. It's a great way to avoid mindless spending.

Here's a thought ->You might have money left over to carry into the next day. Now that's saving!

NFL Sunday, Sweet!

The NFL season kicked off last Thursday with the two teams who played for the Super Bowl Championship ->New Orleans Saints vs Minnesota Vikings. Today, all the teams kickoff their season and I'm excited. My home team, the Atlanta Falcons are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers which should be a good game.

It's always an exciting time of the year when the NFL season starts. I am sure homes, college dorms/student centers, and sports eateries will be filled with fans cheering on their favorite teams. It's a good day to fellowship with family, friends, and neighbors. So after Sunday dinner and slice of apple pie, tune into an NFL game. Now that's Sweet!

Snacking Tip

If you like snacks such as chips, fritos, pretzels, or popcorn, pour a moderate portion into a bowl instead of eating directly from the bag. This helps to keep you from eating too much especially if you are snacking while watching television. Once the bowl is empty, drink plenty of water to help quench your thirst after eating salty snacks.

Organizing the College Dorm Room

The fall semester has started on college campuses across the country and students are settling into their college dorm rooms. These rooms are generally not very big and most students have to share them with another student.

Here are some Easy Organizing Tips to make use of the space:

-->Use plenty of clear plastic containers that stack easily. Label the containers using masking tape and a Sharpie pen on what's inside. When you are hurrying in the morning to get to class, you don't want to waste time opening several containers to find what you need. These containers come in handy for storing snacks that you want to stay fresh.
-->Buy a sturdy laundry basket so that you can easily grab it when heading to the laundry facility. The ones with a lid are best to avoid dropping any clothes from the basket while walking to the laundry room.
-->Use an over-the-door shoe rack for easy access to your shoes. This will keep the shoes neatly organized. If you get up in the night, you don't want to run the risk of tripping on shoes that have been left in the middle of the floor.
-->Stay organized on assignments and events with a bulletin board. Hang it near the desk area in the room for easy referencing. There are always fliers being handed out with college events coming up and the board would be a good spot to make sure you don't miss an important project or event.

Please share some of your own tips especially if you lived in a college dorm.

Air Conditioning Break

The last few mornings in Atlanta have been so refreshingly cool and this weekend will be about the same. If the weather is cooling a bit in your area, give the air conditioning a break by opening the windows of your home or apartment to let in some fresh air. This will also help cut down the A/C bill for extra savings. If it's safe enough, keep the windows open at night.

Start Budgeting Today

A new month has begun and what a good time to start that budget you've been putting off. If you already have a monthly budget and are sticking to it, I applaud you.

I am sure you have balanced your checking account from last month and are about to start paying those pesky, but necessary bills for September. It's time to take a serious look at your spending habits to make sure you are putting away money into your savings. I know budgeting can put a damper on your lifestyle, but there is no time like the present to start.

I recommend at least a six to eight months of savings for emergencies which can include car repairs, medical costs, home fix-ups, etc. Don't get caught in a lurch with no money to fall back on. Be prepared and start budgeting today!
